$1,000 Donation to the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie
The Park Ridge Garden Club was pleased to make a donation to the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie which is located in Illinois. This was the first national prairie set aside in the United States. It includes a full array of species and natural processes typical of tallgrass prairies in the region, including the reintroduction of bison. $4,000 Donation to the Forestry Department
The Park Ridge Garden Club is funding a Legacy Project with the Forestry Department of the City of Park Ridge. The club donated $4,000 to supplement the city's Tree Canopy Program. The Garden Club is partnering with the city in selecting native trees to plant, where possible, in public areas.
The check was presented to Mayor Marty Maloney, Mayor, and Brandon Naser, City Forester, by Jack Barnette, Garden Club President at the August 21, 2023, City Council Meeting. |
For the Love of Trees!
When the Park Ridge Garden Club noticed the loss of a tree near the entrance to our monthly meetings at the Centennial Activity Center, the club decided to donate a replacement. We are happy to see the new tree has been planted along with a plaque inscribed, "Dedicated to the Beauty and Future of Our Community". One of the club's objectives as a non-profit organization is to improve and beautify the community of Park Ridge. This is just one example of the various Garden Club projects to continuously achieve this goal.

Tree Canopy Restoration Project
One of the club's objectives is to improve and beautify the community of Park Ridge, so the Park Ridge Garden Club initiated a four-year partnership with the City of Park Ridge to help replace trees on city parkways that were lost to storm damage, injury, age, and Emerald Ash Borer devastation. Planting started in the spring of 2018 with our first donation, and our last donation was in the fall of 2021. It's been a wonderful project that has benefited our city and residents!
